For over a year, Stone Oak residents have driven past the lot at 19126 Stonehue a nd witnessed its transformation from a dirt clearing to a gorgeous, two-story inpatient rehabilitation hospital. Close to completion, GlobalRehab Hospital is projected to open in spring, 2010.
Only a month after the first hospital was launched in Dallas, a second location opened its doors in Fort Worth, and construction on the San Antonio campus began just months after that. "We have identified a clear service need in the San Antonio area," said Angie Philips, COO of GlobalRehab Management. With an aging population of baby boomers, the city's continuing growth, and the growing number of stroke and heart attack sufferers in San Antonio, the hospital is a welcomed addition to the medical community.
GlobalRehab will also generate more jobs and local revenue. The new hospital, e xpected to admit over 1,000 patients every year, is projected to create 150 new jobs. Career opportunities will be available to a spectrum of qualified personnel from physical and occupational therapists and assistants, speech and language therapists, and c ertified rehab nurses, to cooks, aids, and environmental services staff. Over $15 million in initial capital needs will be invested into the community, with another $5 million per year in salary dollars.
With a full range of services, the hospital primarily addresses the needs of patients suffering from stroke, neurological disorders, amputations, rheumatoid arthritis, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and congenital deformities. "Rehabilitation is such a rewarding niche in healthcare because the process is designed to get the patient back home and back into the community."
Another important curative aspect of GlobalRehab is that it is an environment that promotes healing. "Our clinical team has collaborated on everything from equipment selection, best practices and techniques, to food and menu selections," Ms. Phillips said. Each hospital houses thirty-eight private and four semi-private beds, with each room designed to create a "home-like atmosphere." The warm, open spaces and modern decor create a more comfortable transition from hospital to home.
Outstanding, specialized care and state-of-the-art facilities are just the beginning at GlobalRehab. The hospital also offers a range of special features including Catering Associates to aid in individualized dietary options, a "Therapy Courtyard," and rehabilitation services focused on the unique needs of each patient.
