Property Owners Association

The Stone Oak community is known for its clean and elegant style, with neat rows of oak trees lining Stone Oak Parkway, perfectly landscaped medians, and smoothly paved sidewalks. This collection of well-manicured subdivisions and sophisticated establishments has become something of a commodity in San Antonio, and there is a group of people who work specifically to make sure residents and businesses adhere to a strict aesthetic code.

The Stone Oak Property Owners Association was established with their main objective being to maintain the integrity of the community. The Stone Oak POA is very involved with controlling the development of commercial buildings, apartment complexes, and condominiums, but not individual residential housing. The POA is also responsible for working with the city and county on local issues and projects, maintaining the community's landscaping, and conducting repairs. This includes, but is not limited to, the landscaping and maintenance of the irrigation systems throughout every median in the Stone Oak area. Their main goal is to adhere to the Master Plan for future development and to mitigate some of the less desirable effects of continued growth.

The Management Company at Stone Oak - Sonterra, Inc. was formed in 2008 to provide management services to both the Stone Oak and Sonterra Property Owners Associations. From each association, The Management Company collects their share of general overhead and other costs, without any profit being made by The Management Company. Their Board of Directors is made up of two members appointed by each association's Board, to ensure a cohesive balance and to facilitate communication between the company and the two associations.

The current Board of Directors for the Stone Oak POA consists of Joe Silman as the chairman, Mike Villyard as president, Evelyn Montalvan as the vice president, Ken Piland as secretary, and Hugo Gutierrez III as treasurer. Current committees are Aesthetics, Community Issues, Architectural Review, and Budget and Finance chaired by Joe Silman, Art Downey, Sandy Whitley, and Hugo Gutierrez. The Board of Directors administers and enforces all contracts, restrictions, rules and regulations outlined in Stone Oak's Master Plan. They are in charge of approving or rejecting future land usage or changes. The Area Representatives Committee involves representatives from each subdivision. They are encouraged to attend quarterly meetings to discuss pertinent issues and concerns of home owners, businesses, and developers.

You can participate in the discourses surrounding important issues by addressing your immediate Area Representative in your home's subdivision. The Stone Oak POA is always open to suggestions, questions, and issues of concern. You may even be eligible to serve on a committee or volunteer for a special project.
